February 18, 2020 - Rob Van Varseveld (right, with Chair MJ Berezan)
Guest speakers Rob Van Varseveld (above right, with Chair MJ Berezan) and Duncan Moore, Larch Hills Nordic Club made a presentation about a lightning project for the Larch Hills skiing area.  The goal is to have 6 kilometers of lighted trails.   The Larch Hills club wants to build this project using a four phases approach.  The first phase will cost $190,000.00 (most expensive) and so far, the club has raised $100,000.00  – the entire cost of the four phases is $600,000.  Lighted trails will enhance skier safety, support people who can only ski during the evenings and encourage more people to ski.

Mike Boudreau – filled us in on what’s new with Techbrew Robotics – a local Vision Guided Robotics Company.  We learned about the latest project, robotic mushroom picking harvesting.  We enjoyed a very interesting presentation of local high tech!  Mike is shown on the right, with acting president MJ Berezan on the left.

January 21, 2020 - Habitat for Humanity in Salmon Arm

Bill Miller, Executive Director and Rex Landis,  Procurement & Donations Coordinator, for Habitat for Humanity spoke to the club about the goals and work that Habitat for Humanity does. They outlined plans for building a 22 unit seniors' housing complex on 10th Avenue NE in Salmon Arm to begin construction this summer. 
 
They also announced that a Habitat for Humanity Restore store will open in the spring at Cenetoka Mall. It will sell new and gently used furniture and building supplies. The funds from these stores are used for their housing projects.

Gudrun Malmqvist, a member since September 2018, was born in Kilifi, Kenya, close to our sponsored school in Barani.  She lived in parts of Africa before coming to Salmon Arm in 2010 with her husband and children.  Gudrun (right) is shown here with President Elect, MJ Berezan.

Riley Boudreau and Sara Froud (shown centre and left, with acting President Kathy Dunfield on the left) presented about their trip around the world.  They toured many historical WWI and II sites in Europe.  Their pre-wedding celebration in Nepal was a highlight.

Rotarian Gudrun Malmqvist, Thomas Briginshaw, Executive Director Innovation Centre, Michael Gravells and Rotarian Patti Thurston 
 
Thomas Briginshaw, Executive Director of the Innovation Centre on Shuswap St., Salmon Arm, spoke to the club about their programs.  Michael Gravells, a youth who has been working in the technology area in the basement, talked about what he has been doing with the 3D printer.  They have several courses, a rooftop garden with yoga classes and office space for 19 offices.  They are hoping for a donation from our club, and have plans to become self-sustaining.

Captain Jessica Ellenor with Master Warrant Karl Bongay, Warrant Officer Daniel Zazzi, and Warrant Officer Peter Zazzi spoke about the program of the Rocky Mountain Rangers.  They had a slide show from their trip to Western Europe to visit historical sites from WWI and WWII.  They are planning another trip to visit similar sites in Eastern Europe.
