International Service
Rotary International is an organization of service clubs known as “rotary” in their communities.
The motto “service above self” conveys the humanitarian spirit club members extend both in their communities locally and internationally.
As your “International Director” within rotary there are six areas of focus or community priorities.
1.Peace and conflict resolution
2.Disease prevention and treatment
3.Water and sanitation
4.material and child health
5.education and literacy
6.Economic and community development
A well planned international project in one of the focus areas very likely will garner a district simplified or matching grant towards the project.
In 2013 when our district is functioning under ’future vision’ clubs and districts can download grant forms online and partner internationally to render service in the six areas of focus.
This year our club has embraced the dental project to Cuenca Ecuador in partnership with an Edmonton rotary club once again. Gene Tymkiw and Donna Cook will be joining a dental team and a orthopedic surgical team from Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver in partnership with a rotary club in Cuenca to restore hips and knees and take care of the huge dental needs of the poor mountain children.
Under Mike Boudreau our club has partnered with a rotary club in Kenya to have a proper water tank and stand installed to make water available to the locals. As well we have garnered a district simplified grant and with our club members and non rotarian community members we are feeding lunch to school children in Barani !
Where much is given much is expected! We have so much and others have so little!
